Lunch is an important meal for school going children. The traditional packed lunch of milk and sandwiches is under attack from a range of convenience foods like crisps, sweets, biscuits, chocolate and soft drinks.
St. Joseph’s Infant School is a Health Promoting School. We recommend a healthy lunch as much as possible everyday but especially on ‘Healthy Tuesday’ when no sweets, crisps, chocolate, biscuits or fizzy drinks are allowed, and on Fridays for ‘Fruity Friday’ when we would ask parents to include a piece of fruit in their child’s lunchbox. If this piece of fruit needs to be peeled or washed we would ask parents to do this at home. We will ask you to encourage a healthy lunch right from the start. Also, please, only give your child something you feel s/he can easily manage to eat. Children are not normally very hungry at school, so a little snack will do. Glass bottles and chewing gum are not allowed for obvious reasons.
