At St. Joseph’s Convent NS we have been working hard on our Green-schools Global Citizenship Marine Environment theme. Miss Murphy is the Green-Schools co-ordinator and on the committee, we have Tom, Emma, Payton, Conor, Mathias and Amelia. Our Green code is ‘Be a wise man the ocean is not a garbage can’. We had our renewal visit via Zoom with one of the Green-schools’ representatives last week. It went very well. We have submitted our application and we are hoping to receive our 8th Green Flag this year if our application is successful. For the past two years we have been raising awareness about the issues associated with marine litter. We have done lots of #2minutestreetcleans. We have raised awareness about the ‘Think Before You Flush Campaign’. We have made an animation about the effects of Marine Litter on the sea. Our teachers have done lots of curriculum work with their pupils. We had a day of action where we learned all about the effects of climate change on our seas. We collected bottle tops and used them for art and play. Our school catering company got rid of single use plastic bottles and now all pupils have a reusable bottle and we have water refill stations all over the school. We have continued work on previous themes, litter and waste, energy, water, travel and biodiversity. We had so much fun. Well done to all of the boys and girls at St. Joseph’s Convent NS for all of their hard work.
