We got the Green Flag!
Hello everyone! We have just received some very exciting news. Our school has been awarded the Green Flag for Global Citizenship Energy! The team at Green-Schools were very impressed with our application. In the email they said ‘You all deserve a huge amount of credit for your efforts. The work that you are doing is really having a positive impact, and when the work of all schools is combined it’s truly amazing!’ Miss Murphy, the Green Schools Co-ordinator would like to say a huge thank you to Mrs. Buckley for her advice and expertise and to her very dedicated Green Schools committee; Gabriela Staniszewska, Alison Treacy, Odhran Lowe, Alex Moran, Caoimhe O’ Halloran and Allyssa Kennedy who worked so hard to help us get the flag. The committee had regular meetings throughout the year where we came up with slogans, made plans for climate action week, learned about how to be good global citizens and so much more. The committee were due to perform a play called ‘The Green Schools Committee Saves the City’ the day after the school closure. A huge thank you to Mr. Fitzgerald, the SNA’S, the teachers and their classes for getting involved with the energy experiments, planting bulbs, making posters and for making a huge effort to get energy bills down by turning off lights, heating and appliances throughout the year. It was a team effort that really paid off. Unfortunately, due the current situation the team at Green-Schools are not in a position to hold the Green-Schools Awards Ceremonies this year. As soon as the schools re-open they will ensure we receive our Green Flag and certificate. In the meantime, Green-Schools are developing new and interactive activities that students can take part in from within the home environment. Check out the Green- Schools Stay Home project https://greenschoolsireland.org/projects/. Activities promise to be fun and educational and can be completed individually or involve the whole family. Weekly activities, which are suitable for a wide range of age groups, will be added under the themes; Litter and Waste, Water, Travel, Biodiversity, Global Citizenship, The Marine Environment and Energy.
